Nintendo have recently received some fairly serious criticism upon the launch of their new Wii console. Mostly because of the name.
Now I’m no gamer, but a great post over at WeBreakStuff demonstrates that Nintendo have used the “Less is More” strategy with Wii, making it an overall success.
They have used ‘Less’ in a variety of ways:
- Less complication – The gaming controls are much more and easier to use than the Playstation ever can be
- Less features – While Sony the Playstation 3 is an all-in-one-high-end-gaming and media-entertainment centre, the Wii keeps focuses on one thing – Gaming
- Less price – less functionality = less cost = less resistance to purchase = more sales for Nintendo
Regardless of its name, the strategy just might work.
